How it works

What cropping a PDF really means
Cropping sets each page's crop box, which tells viewers and printers which part of the page to show. You adjust the top, right, bottom and left margins on a preview of the page, either by dragging the edges or by entering values in millimetres or percent.
The crop is non-destructive: text and images outside the box are still stored in the file, they are just not displayed. That keeps the operation fast and leaves the page content untouched, but it also means cropping is not a way to hide sensitive material.

What the crop box does and does not do
Every PDF page has a full physical area and can also have a crop box, the visible window inside it. Viewers and printers respect the crop box, so a page cropped to 150 by 200 mm shows and prints at that size. Some programs may still see the full area, and text outside the window can sometimes still be found by search or copy.
When the pages of a scan differ slightly in size, percent values keep the trim proportional, while millimetres give an identical border on every page. Choose percent for mixed sizes and millimetres when you need a fixed border.

Good to know
- Cropping hides content instead of deleting it. Anything outside the box is still in the file, so use Redact PDF to remove sensitive material.
- File size normally does not go down, because the hidden content is still stored.
- One set of margins is applied to every page in the chosen range. Pages that need different crops must be handled in separate runs.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF.

Frequently asked questions
Does cropping permanently remove the content I cut off?
No. It sets the visible area, and the content outside stays inside the file. If something must be gone for good, use Redact PDF.
Can I crop only some pages?
Yes. Choose a page range and the crop is applied to those pages only. The others are left as they were.
Should I use millimetres or percent?
Use millimetres for an exact trim on pages of one size, and percent when page sizes vary so the crop stays proportional.
Why did my file size not get smaller after cropping?
Because the cropped-away content is still stored in the file. Cropping changes what is shown, not what is saved. Compress PDF can reduce the size separately.
Will text remain selectable after I crop?
Yes. Pages are not re-rendered as images, so text inside the visible area can still be selected and searched.
Is my PDF uploaded when I crop it?
No. The crop is applied in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
